Are you looking for a warm and sweet treat on those cold days?  Try this Mexican Hot Chocolate.

As an athlete, this hot chocolate is full of somewhat guilt free post-workout indulgences. Here is why…

The milk contains bone-building calcium and vitamin D (use whole milk, not low or reduced,) while unsweetened cocoa contains antioxidant flavonoids that fend off inflammation. The chili powder not only provides a kick but boosts the metabolism to help avoid weight gain as well as ease indigestion.


Here’s how you indulge…

Heat over low heat, 1 cup of whole milk

As the milk warms, add the following until warmed throughout:

  • 1 Tbsp of organic unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp raw sugar
  • 1 ounce of 85% or greater organic chocolate bar
  • ¼ tsp. chili powder
  • Pinch of sea salt (to taste)

Finish with fresh cinnamon to taste and enjoy!
